FileBackup for Linux
Backup whatever, whenever, and restore everywhere, anytime

Overview of a Backup Set file

Backup Set is a collection of parameters, which control backup process. All of them are concentrated in the special file. We recommend you to follow these rules:

  1. File can have any name, but we recommend you to give it understandable name with .bs extension, because a title of this file (filename without .bs extension) is a description of a Backup Set.
  2. All files has to be in the FileBackup subdirectory of your home directory, because in the GUI mode Software allows you to work only with files from this directory.
  3. Files has to have .bs extension, because in the GUI mode Software views only them.

Before you can perform any operation (backup, restore, ...) you have to add a new Backup Set file that describes what, how and where you want to backup. Once you've created that file you can use it for all further backups and restores. You don't need to add a new Bckup Set every time before backup!

We provide sample.bs file that is a standard Backup Set file with detailed description of each Backup Set parameter. In the GUI mode Software uses it as a template for other files. Click here to open sample.bs and read detailed description of each Backup Set property.

Every Backup Set has own local folder with service files (logfile, catalog files, patch database,...). This folder has a name: ~/FileBackup/Catalogs/Backup_Set_Title/.
