How to backup on CD-R, CD-RW and DVD-RAM drives

EaseBackup 4.60 and higher can record data directly on a restricted set of CD-R, CD-RW and DVD-RW/DVD+RW recording devices. It uses its own format to save data on a medium. That's why to enable EaseBackup to record data directly on CD/DVD you have to use blank discs or discs which were prepared by EaseBackup before. Such discs have only one file at the root directory named "README.TXT" that informs you that this medium contains hidden backup archives created by EaseBackup software. When you insert a blank medium EaseBackup automatically prepares it and later you can use this medium for subsequent backups.

To backup to other recording devices, you need Incremental Packet Writing software like Adaptec's DirectCD or Nero InCD. This CD/DVD burning software is normally provided by the manufacturer of the drive and is correctly configured during the software installation. It enables you to backup to your CD-R, CD-RW and DVD-RAM drive, just like a hard disk or floppy disk drive. One way to tell if you have an existing driver, is if the device appears in your Windows Explorer as a drive letter (i.e. the drive has been mapped) and you can use it for basic file copying and storage. With Incremental Packet Writing software you can also easily drag and drop files right from other applications, create new directories right on your CD-R, CD-RW or DVD-RAM, and even save files from your applications, (e.g word processing, drawing, etc...) directly to your drive.
