    1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).

    2. Open the following key:
    3. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\KIESoft\BackupMe

  • Can BackupMe run as a service on Windows NT/2000/XP?

  • To run periodical backups BackupMe uses the standard Windows scheduler that is run as a service on Windows NT/2000/XP. The scheduler starts backups whether you logged or not.

  • Can I perform backup of different files or folders at a time?

  • Yes. You can backup as many files or folders as you need. For details, see Backup Set Wizard page.

  • Can the program do a full restore to a blank hard drive?

  • Yes, the program can do this. You have to use Disaster Recovery CD module to be able to restore operating system.

  • Why instead of one backup archive I found in the target folder many files with "...zip.zNNN" and "...zip.cat" extensions?

  • When BackupMe backs up, it makes a few backup archives because that allows to span backup on a few media and to increase reliability and speed of restore process.

ZIP format does not support native spanning and that's why BackupMe makes a few small volumes. Each ".zNNN" files is a volume. Don't worry, it's a standard ZIP file, but it contains only a part of backed up files. Restore wizard automatically works with them and you don't need to know anything else about it.  This is a normal situation.

  • To move BackupMe to a different computer you have to:

    1. Save your current repair information under using the "Save/Restore repair information..." command. We recommend to save it on a floppy disk.
    2. Install the latest version of BackupMe on a target computer. You can download it at http://www.kiesoft.com/backupme/.
    3. Restore the saved repair information under using the "File -> Save/Restore repair information..." command.
    4. Apply your registration key.

As a result you will have all your Backup Sets. If you need to restore files, do it as usual. But all backups will be full at the first time (Because repair information does not have big local catalogs files you need to do incremental backups). If you do not want to do full backups again you have to copy "C:\Program Files\KieSoft\BackupMe\Catalogs" folder from the sourse to the target computer.
