Program Settings
Customize 123Backup for your use.

There are a number of settings defining the way 123Backup operates. You can modify them any time you wish. Select Program Settings option of the Main screen and press the Next button. There are the following settings in 123Backup:

  1. Send log to:.

An email can be sent after a backup process has finished. You can configure where the email log will be delivered by typing the email information below. To disable feature, just leave (From/To:) blank. You can insert more than one e-mail address, but each one must be separated by a semicolon (;).

There are basically two methods to send an email message:

You can specify your POP3 account because some email servers (like Yahoo!) need POP3 authorization before sending of email messages.

  2. Include list of backing files in the log.

By default 123Backup includes the following messages into a backup log:

When you check this box, 123Backup will include a list of backed up files into a backup log too.

  3. Scheduler.

This button allows to activate or stop the scheduler that runs periodical backups.

  4. Connections.

During backup on a remote FTP Server, 123Backup connects to InterNet. Setup your dial-up and proxy settings here. There are basically two ways to establish a connection to the backup server:

  5. Encryption keys.

You can manage the database of encryption keys you used to encrypt backup archives.

    1. Generate a new encryption key. Press the "Create new key..." button for this.
    2. Show Hint of the key.
    3. Options, which allow to print a dump of the selected key and import the dump back into the Software. It gives you one more level of insurance you won't lose your encryption keys

IMPORTANT NOTE: You MUST be very careful with your encryption keys.  If you lose them, you will NEVER restore your files.  That's why you MUST make a few copies of them, and locate them in a few safe places (away of your computer). This is VERY IMPORTANT because you can restore your files only if you have the encryption keys!  We recommend you use Repair wizard to copy them (and the 123Backup configuration) to other storage locations.

  6. File types....

With the help of this wizard, you can easily create, edit, or delete file selectors.

  7. Backup....

123Backup supports 2 modes to make incremental backups:

    1. Normal mode - in this mode, 123Backup backs up entire new or changed files, no matter how small changes you have done within them. It takes the usual amount of space and on 100% secure, because each backup archive is independent and can be restored even if some backup archives were lost.

If you backup on FTP Server in this mode, you can limit a number of stored versions of a backed up file. 123Backup automatically deleted too old versions. If you set "0" as the limit, 123Backup will disable the limit.

    2. Patch mode - If you use the patch mode, 123Backup finds the changes you have made within your files and backup only them. It takes much less storage space than usual, but you must have all backup archives to restore. Also you can specify a list of file types to be used with patch mode. Other files will be backed up by using the normal mode.

  8. Disaster Recovery Wizard....

Repair wizard helps you to save or restore configuration files. You have to save your repair information every time when you add a new encryption key! We recommend you have a few Repair disks in a few offsite locations. more...
